I've never been homeless but did go two days without food once. You would have to know me to understand how difficult that must have been. My Mom suspected that I might be living on the street in Chicago but I actually had an apartment. No furniture. I had a milk crate to sit on and another milk crate to sit my very small black and white TV on and a sleeping bag. I got out of the situation by moving back to Oklahoma and living with my parents for a month. I was a slow learner on the money thing but even though I am thick headed, I eventually learned to manage my money better. People on here wonder why I believe in God. The reason why is because of the number of times that I have been way down at the failing level and always managed to comeback somehow. For example, when my car got reposessed and I managed to get another one the next day. This guy who wasn't a car dealer let me take it on a verbal payment agreement. That's when I figured out how much I could accomplish if I ate enough rice. I don't believe that I made it on my own. Going thru those times was rough but in the long run I have learned a lot of valuable lessons that i wouldn't have learned otherwise. I'm actually glad now that all the crap happened. I'm thankful that I have always had a roof over my head and with the exception of those two days I have always had food. Even though a lot of the time it was rice. Next time I will tell you my life story!!! LOL!

My family was homeless for a while when I was like 16. I got out of it by quitting school, and getting a job to help pay the bills.

Yes, about ten years ago. I got out of that situation by a caring friend who took me under his wing & offered me a job.
He believed in me even when I didn't, and I haven't been homeless since.
It takes perserverance & a desire to want a better life than the tough one on the streets.

No, but I worked at hoemless shelter for a year.
About 1 third of the people who went there were mentally and emotional ill, the second third had substance abuse problems and the last third were just down on there luck .
The one's who were motivated were out in a week or two and never came back. Others who were less motivated and had mental illness or substance abuse problems were regulars every month a week or two after their government assistance checks ran out.

Several times, ranging from a few weeks to a few months.
Some were voluntary, on extended walkabout. Other times, not so much.
Anything is possible for those who are willing to put in the effort. That doesn't mean it will be easy or fast, and Divine guidance or a little luck always help.

I lived in a port-a-john for three years. When people came in to do their business, I pretended I was an attendant, and earned huge tip money. I invested that money and became wealthy. I am now the democatic nominee for Senate in Connecticut. What a country!

I lived in the woods (in a tent) for 4 months. I decided to go home when the weather was about to get cold.
