Did you have an uti and have to be put in the hospital on an iv to get rid of it? If so did they use a cathater?

i have them many time and also got put on antibotics and sent home. they might want to flush it out of your system because it can go into your kidneys.

Well - yeah something similar once happened to me. I had a general very broad infection of the lower body which included a uti which was not responding to treatment. Also included was a general breakdown of the whole vaginal immune system (I still blame this onto tampons). It was so bad that the regular uti medications (sulfonamides) did not work any more. and that...is kind of dangerous.

So I got to this hospital as an emergency. They had to use the catheter only because in this whole context my bladder would not empty any more by itself. That was part fo this general infection including all kinds of other problems. And the emergency urologist doctor was pretty helpless since he was an urologist specialized on men.

So I went to see a gynecologist right after that and got immediately different drugs (she was good, picked the right stuff). She knew pretty much right away what it was after the looked a sample up in the microscope.

It took 2-3 months though to get it all cleared out and feel healed. and I am very careful since then to never ever catch that again.

Mostly Cranberry Juice to cut down on acid flora in bladder
Drink Water to clear
The IV may be because you were dehydrated in some area.

Please consider the OTC drugs did not work so you had antibiotics to find out what it was to be put in hospital because it had to be labs and observation.

The Cathater to keep area clear of urine
I quit at this point but I have a interest in Nursing and this is my best guess... NOT that you did anything wrong because infant children get UTI's

Some people get utis often and can be admitted into the hospital for iv antibiotics, to prevent your infection from going into your kidneys.. Never is a catheter used to treat a uti, but they may use a straight catheter to get a sample of urine straight from your bladder. Doing this prevents the sample from getting contaminated by bacteria that is normally on a person's body. Once they identify what type of bacteria you have, they may start you on iv antibiotics that the bacteria is suseptible to. Most often the doctor will also send you home on antibiotics that you take by mouth. They will also tell you that it is important that you take all you medication even if you think you're cured. If you stop you medications the infection may recur and often the bacteria becomes resistant to that antibiotic and you may have to start all over again.

Not personally but it does happen. The iv antibiotics will work faster than the oral ones. The cathater will ease the release of urine from the body with less pain, but they are not always necessary.

good luck.

I have had 2 kidney infections in the last 6 months that caused me to be hospitalized for IV antibiotics. I did not have a catheter either time.

The main cause of UTI's in hospitals is actually catheterization!
Treatment: Antibiotics.

It has never happened to me, But if your pregnancy is jeopardized by a health reason or there is some reason that your are prone to infection, they may have been justified in treating you this way. Maybe you had a serious infection and it could have harmed your baby!!!! It may have also caused you to have a miscarriage.
