One reason I hear that Christians support the GOP is because of its stance on Abortion. Do these Christians know that there are Democrats who also support Right to Life Issues? Does it not stand to reason that if more Christians would join this cause that this issue could become acceptable to the DNC? Especially if more Christians supported this issue. (Do a search on Google for Right to Life Democrats for more information)

The main difference is that Right to Life Democrats do not want to overturn Roe V Wade. But instead we want to find ways to reduce the need for Abortions. Overturning Roe V Wade will only make it illegal, not eliminate the root causes.

For those of you who are Right to Life Republicans, is the abortion issue the only factor for you to be Republican or would you consider the democratic platform on other issues?
If the abortion issue was not a consideration why do you vote Republican?

Why or why not?

No, I have no desire to attack anyone on their differences in opinion. It does nothing to pursuade them and only creates hard feelings. Plus I don't believe that Jesus wants us to hurt one another.

I am Liberal, Christian, and Pro-Life. You bring up an interesting point with "we want to find ways to reduce the need for Abortions". After a steady decline during the last 4 years of the Clinton presidency, the abortion rate is rising again under Bush. There are a lot of things we "can" be doing to reduce the number of abortions. Pro-Life Republicans tend to see it as something that MUST be stopped through strict punishment, while Pro-Life Democrats see it as something that CAN be stopped through compassion and assistance. Therein lies the difference...

(I am also opposed to wars of aggression and "collateral damage", by the way, unlike most of the pro-life camp)

1. Abortion is only one issue. I disagree with most Democrats on many issues.
2. Overturning Roe v Wade will not outlaw a single abortion. It would only let the States pass their own laws.
3. Supporting Roe v Wade and claiming to be Pro-Life has a name: Hypocrisy.

How any political party can think that they can rule on an issue which is a private concern of a mother is beyond me. There are issues that politicians need to address which are far more important than this one, like feeding children that are already born, like giving children that are already born a place to live other than the street, to give children that are already born the needed medical care that they require to be a healthy individual, to give children that are already born a decent education so that they can live a productive life. These are issues that they neglect! Why? Because they are politicians and they have found that they can get more publicity, and possible voter support by standing up for children that may or may not even be born. This is a sad commentary on the politicians of the day when they stand up for a child in the womb then neglect him or her once they are born.

I am a Christian Republican. As far as abortion goes, I believe it is wrong. Period. So why would I want to join forces with a political party that does not want to make it illegal??? Your logic is poorly thought out. Eliminating the root causes is a good start, but it's impossible. There will always be people who do not want their children, and that is very unfortunate. But by making it illegal, it would make it much much harder for people to be that heartless, and many people would not consider it as much. SOOOO that is why I support Republicans on the issue of abortion. I also support many other issues of the Republican party, so regardless of abortion issues, I would still assosciate with Republicans.

I do appreciate your question, though. You did not attack anyone, unlike many people who post similar questions. And you did put a lot of thought into supporting your opinion. Thanks!

No, it isn't. I'm a Christian, a Catholic, and a Republican. I have realized recently that I am Pro choice. NOT pro abortion; to characterize anyone as such is mere propaganda. I believe a woman, hopefully with the input from her partner, should have the right to choice what to do with her body. You are right in that making abortion illegal will not stop women from having abortions. They've been doing it forever, but they have had for too long to go to the "back street abortionists" who do use coat hanger or even knives. My father was a police officer for 26 years and he had to take two of these girls to the hospital after being brutalized in such a way. He's almost 80 and he's a Republican and pro-choice as well.

Dem leaders want abortions to be legal safe and rare. Birth control, education and parental involvement (all things Dems favor) are good things. And remember, if abortions become illegal again, the right to lifers will then go after birth control pills as they believe they create abortions as well. Woman need to stand up for their rights and make decision for themselves. It's not up to the government.

1 Democrats have most of the liberals. 2 Abortion is murder. 3 Democrats are for handouts that don't help people improve themselves. 4Republicans want to encourage people to better themselves (this includes not getting pregnant until you are married and want a child.)
