thats because African Americans have been scrutinized and mocked for hundreds of years by the white people so it is funnier when they make fun of white people because people that are supposedly "inferior" to white are mocking and making fun of them. So there is still that color barrier, which there shouldn't be but the U.S hasn't resolved all of the problems

I think that comedy should have ALL barriers possible - 'cause there will always be someone to be angry about something a comedian says. Problem with the black-and-white comedy is that there is still a tension around the racial subject. It's still not a free and equal world after all!

Most people who think it's racism when a white comedian makes fun of black people are white. George Carlin made fun of black people a lot. Many white comedians do. Just remember, black people can be racists, too. Martin Lawrence is one of them.

Because there is a serious and culturally accepted double-standard. I think comedians should be free to make fun of anyone and everyone for any reason whatsoever. And the good ones will do so despite the double-standard.

Comedy is like this: it is funny to those who find it funny and it is offensive to those who take offense.
Black, white, male, female, handicapped, or whatever, comedians make fun of lots of people and will be bound to offend someone. Trust me, everyday normal people are not thinking about or taking great stock in something said by a racist, homophobic, chauvinistic comedian.

All I can say about that is this: On Yahoo Answers, it's OK to make fun of George Bush, but don't you DARE make fun of Michael Jackson! Someone asked the question "how do I bleach my skin white?" I answered "ask Michael Jackson, he obviously knows how" and I got 'reported' for it! But I have heard many many negative things (much worse) about George Bush! I am not saying that they aren't true!...!! I'm just say'n there is a double standard

another good example of racism is the Miss Black America pageant. oh mannnnnn if there was one that was the Miss White America pageant.. all hell would break loose again..
I'm not racist, I American, and southern by the grace of God. I think if it's a comedy act, etc., there should be no barriers... if you are born in America.. you are American. .. stop with all the nitpicking world!!!

A minority can make fun of a majority but not the other way around. Its just the way of the mentality of the masses. A majority is in the 'stronger' category, so to put down a mminority looks unfair/unjust.

it is a spread of racism, there is particularly no incorrect thanks to positioned it. i have considered some very humorous white comedians poke interesting at black human beings and black way of existence, yet in an non-inflammatory way. someone above me stated it... "it is what it is". For whites to flee with it, it should be sharp, and witty. Blacks can nevertheless opt for the affordable snigger, for now.

Frankly I get tired of the race/color/sex/gender jokes. It's old hat. But then again, using uncomfortable material gets a giggle out of some people. In this case though, I guess 500 years plus of oppression kinda allows you payback. Who knows.
