Hi,
As for any better deals, I would think you could get a Toshiba of that model of just under 1000.00. Keep looking and rather than ask the sales person, poll your friends who own laptops and especially someone knowledgeable and up to date on computers.
The advantages to having a laptop, for one, the portability of course which brings with it ALL kinds of convenience. I can do wome work or go on Yahoo Answers sitting anywhere in my home (yes, make sure you have wireless capability).
The disadvantage is that the laptop gets very, very hot, so putting it in your lap really isn't an option (you can buy an external cooling unit..but then you also have to lug that around), the battery hold at first is amazing and then lessens over time so that if I was taking my laptop with me, I'd only have about an hour and a half battery life before the need to plug in, and as light and portable as they are now, when you put everything that you will need into your computer bag, it can get mighty heavy. I also wonder how much I am damaging my computer by lugging it around to different places each day.
Well, regardless of having more disadvantages in my eyes, I still LOVE my laptop. It does break the chains that your desktop has had on you and the freedome feels GOOOOOD!
Have fun and good luck. Oh, by the way, don't get cheap when it comes to memory. Most new ones already have great hard drive space, but still lack in factory installed memory.

I got the toshiba m405-8003.. its awesome.. a little more than 1300.. but amazing.. i would make sure that whatever tablet you buy is light.. lighter the better..
the only issue with tablets are that they are more expensive and the screens are not as flashy. otherwise lot lot more fun..

One concern about tablet laptops is the joint between the base and the display. If it gets flipped around a lot, there is a lot of wear and tear on that.

Tablet PCs are too big. I see a manager use it for all his meeting notes. I would rather use a UMPC or a Pocket PC.
