How long were you with them and why did it strike you to propose?

She and I were the best of friends. I had it with all of the girls I dated. i asked her if she wanted to go on a "real date". She said,"why, we are best frineds?" That's when it hit me that everything we did was so natural that I felt I didn't have to put on an act with her like I did with everyone else. That's when I realized she had to marry me. 15 yrs in November, yeehaw

Honestly, her family was the deciding factor.

It was the least dysfunctional, holidays are the bomb at her familys' house, her Dad is someone I respected from the beginning. (Mom is a sweetheart too)

Whoever said you marry the individual and not the family will either move far away, or be drawn in at some point.

Many different scenarios, but honestly, the family is what decided me to narrow the field to one.

Pretty girls are a dime a dozen around here, so personality, looks, income, spirituality being the same, family is what helped me decide.

Had a Thanksgiving at an old girlfriends that could of made "Best Ever" on Cops...I can laugh about it now, but at the time...kind of scary.

Because I got her pregnant and the kid was 18 mos. by now and I couldn't imagine my son with no father around and I loved him like crazy. She and I had known each other a long time and when I got out of the service she was getting a divorce and we ended up getting together and whammo! she was pregnant and I was a party animal so I just did what I thought was right. We got along good and ended up with a second boy and we stayed together for 18 years but I was on and off of drugs and alcohol and finally had to get out. Then I sobered up right away. Stayed that way now for 8 years.
Still good friends with her but she moved some other idiot into MY house and doesn't have the guts to get rid of him. This is all more info than you asked for but I guess I did it for the kids and the great sex and finally got out. Will never marry again, probably. To me it's just paperwork. I know it's commitment and I was faithful but it's all different these days.
