For example, in Apollo 13, how do they make everything "float" in space scenes? I mean they don't actually go out in space to film it, and I doubt they use wires, at least for the small stuff like the helmets and gloves that float around...

They take a big plane and get whole bunch of speed going and then do a total nose dive. It creates weightlessness for a couple minutes, until of coures they have to level out again.

They mostly use wires. But in Apollo 13, they actually used the NASA training plane they make free fall to simulate zero gravity. The crew of that movie actually have more hours in that plane than any astronaut.

I believe they use harness on the actors.

That's where the film editors come in! To delete those wires!!! Ahh magic of editing softwares.

sometimes they use a big passenger plane, take all the seats out, then fly high and put it in a kind of controlled free fall

they practice in front of green screen and in the movie it looks like space and they attatch cords to everything while in front of a greeb screen and in the movie it looks real

they have a lot of special effects....especially green screens to make it look like space....they have machines to lift you in the air too

They could be in a aircraft that is free-falling from the sky...
