if the american government ACTUALLY HELPED the people of mexico, rather than enacting policies like NAFTA, that pretend to help them, and in reality just oppress them more, and increase the profits of american corporations- would there be less illegal immigration?

here's some background, since everyone is going to say that i'm talking out of my a**, but won't actually read anything that you give them to support your arguments- There used to be an article in the Mexican constitution that gauranteed land distribution to the poor, but thanks to NAFTA- these lands have been siezed from those people, and sold to the highest bidder (usually a large american corporation who likes the idea of the lack of labor laws).

another interesting thing about this is that, when the zapatistas fought the mexican government, because of this policy (and others) mexico launched a US MILLITARY SUPPORTED campaign of death and destruction against them

ok- i'm not saying it's our responsibility to help them, i'm saying that maybe should stop OPPRESSING them

You are the first person who thinks freely and who see there is a world outside US.
NAFTA was not for benefit of Mexico, it was in benefit of US. I think the people who signed NAFTA from Mexico side were drunk or high
The only way to solve illegal inmigration does not come from US, it comes from Mexican government. They are the ones responsible for this because they are full of corruption and they care more about themselves than about citizens.
NAFTA was a mistake from Mexico, if Mexico wants to win they should join to MERCOSUR or to someone else who is in its same conditions.

No

We have no obligation to help any other country.

Just allowing people from other countries to come hear legally, is helping enough.

If Mexicans had some respect for our laws and didn't just say, I can go to America and do what I want and If I get deported, I'll just come back, then maybe the people here might want to help a little more.

I'm tired of Mexicans stealing from the USA, take welfare, take free education, take jobs, crowd the streets and highways for all the rest of us who are here legally.

.Guess what. America is taking land from its citizens too. It's called eminent domain. NAFTA has taken jobs out of the country, so American workers would be more than happy to take them back. You should get your own country to help you and stop expecting America to give you anything. Your country is just as rich as ours It's just that your politicians are even more crooked than our. I know hard to believe.

Give me a brake.... It's not our job to help the Mexican people... That would be Mexico's job. And NAFTA was much more favorable to them than to us. And as to that garbage about NAFTA land... That the moon is made of green cheese is just as likely to be true.

You make some good points, but that is only part of the problem. The other two problems are that the Mexican government is corrupt and mismanages the country's money, and the drug lords scare people up north.

"there is likewise the misunderstanding that the Mex government ENCOURAGES unlawful immigration. it is complete bulls*it. i've got on no account seen something that makes me think of it must be conceivable." properly, their President can initiate with the aid of no longer buttering as much as Bush attempting to get amnesty for the illegals already here. i do no longer hear the Mexican President attempting to cajole the unlawful Mexicans in the U. S. to bypass returned, he's attempting to cajole the U. S. to enable them to stay.

What needs to happen is the Mexican gov't needs to realize how screwed up their country is.

Hoever, they don't and won't since most of the money earned here in the US is sent to Mexico, so they remain blissfully ignorant to Mexico's real problems.

The US is supposed to go in and "fix" ANOTHER country? Everyone seems to put down the US for their involvement in whatever country we go to, yet so many want to come here to live. They want to come here and have their culture, their language, their flags and yet criticize the government for not helping them more. I say we shut down the borders, pull out of every country we are trying to "help" and let these people fend for themselves.

Why would people run to a country that oppressed them?
