Fort Lauderdale is a beach on the Atlantic Ocean. Anytime you visit a beach on the ocean, there's a possibility of "dangerous sharks." There's simply no way to know if they'll be hanging out at the beach the same time you are.

Yes, of course there are sharks. Read the newspapers. There have been a lot of shark attacks in the last few years.
