There was a big article in my hometown newspaper about them dropping service in a lot of rural communities because it was costing them too much money. So they where sending out letters letting the residence know that they will need to be looking for another service provider. I'm with cingular and I havent' received my letter yet, but my service has been messing up a lot in my home town, but I talked to the cingular people and they told me they couldn't do nothing until I received my letter. Also in the article it said they where going to lose thousands of customers because of this.

Cingular recently announced that they will be increasing the fees or cancelling cell phone service for some of the older model phones. If you go into a Cingular store and upgrade your phones you can stay with the plan.

Cingluar is doing this because some people are still using the older TDMA system which is no longer supported by Cingular's GSM network...if you were to try to upgrade your phone, since your plan is no longer supported you would have to pick a current cingular plan..and if the phone breaks then your SOL.....

I've heard of this happening when you have the free nights and weekends plan and free mobile to mobile in network calling. Sometimes, if you use a ton of free minutes, they will discontinue your account, because it's not profitable for them anymore. I've also heard of this happening with unlimited minute plans, for the same reasons.
