she's heading into menopause - that being said, she needs to see her doctor because losing blood for that long needs to be corrected.

Yes it is. It sounds like she is approaching menopause. This can happen. I am 47 and although I have not had a period for 15 days straight, I have had 2 in one month.
The other issue could be fibroids or endometriosis. The will also cause excessive bleeding.
She really needs to be concerned about anemia. She is losing quite a bit of blood. She needs to see her gyn ASAP. Ask her dr to recommend chromagen as an iron supplement.
Severe anemia can be life threatening

As a woman gets closer to menopause, she is likely to bleed for longer periods of time, and the cycle becomes very erratic. This is due to a hormone imbalance. She should see a doctor -- not because what she is experiencing is unusual, but because it's bad enough having a period for 5 days let alone 15!
I'm 38, going thru perimenopause, and my cycle sometimes lasts 10 days. She shouldn't worry.

Let her go to a gynecologist. It isn't normal to have a 15 days lasting period even if you are not in the menopause. Bleeding out of the vagina could mean a serious diagnosis. So, please don't hesitate and go to a gynecologist.
