Panama has a lot of interesting things ....
1. People, this is the only place in earth where no matter what is your religion, your culture, your roots, every body is friendly and lives in peace....
2. You can go to a beach in the Atlantic ocean and 2 hours later visit a beach in the Pacific ocean.
3. Of course, the Panama Canal and its visitors center.
4. Beach resorts as Decameron (2 hours from Panama City), Playa Blanca (2 hours from Panama City) and Playa Bonita (15 minutes from Panama City).
5. Great natural reserves (visit www.anam.gob.pa).
6. Food, with a very strong Caribbean influence.
7. The Cause Way area in Panama City, with its restaurants, bars, and bikes renting stores.
8. Home for some exotic animal species as the quetzal bird and the harpie eagle.
9. Hot or cold weather. Cold weather areas as Cerro Azul (45 minutes from Panama City), Sorá (1 hour and a half) and Boquete (6 hours).
10. Panamanian music figures as Omar Alfano, Ruben Blades, Sammy y Sandra Sandoval, among others.
11. You can find in a town called Natá de Los Caballeros the oldest church in the Pacific area, and in America, founded by Spaniards during the conquest of America.

There are a lot of interesting things about Panama. It's the new hot destination for baby boomers looking to relocate to a country outside the US. Most of them are looking for beach properties, or they are settling in an area called Boquete in Chiriqui Province.
Panama City is a very modern city. Most Latinos refer to Panama as "Little Miami". The US Dollar is the currency of legal tender in Panama, so there's no need to bother with exchange rates. Major Credit Cards are widely accepted in Panama City and in major towns, specially if they are tourist destinations.
The canal, unlike someone else mentioned, is not run by a Chinese corporation. Actually it's run by the Panama Canal Authority. They recently built a new visitors center that has a souvenier shop, a guided tour of an exposition about the building of the Canal, and the actual improvements they have done on it. The visitors center also has a fine dining restaurant that has a balcony where you can have dinner while watching the locks moving the ships along side.
There are a lot of beaches in Panama. Depending on what you want there's a beach that will suit your needs. If you like surfing There are beaches like Venao, Catalina, Teta, Isla Grande, etc. If you prefer a beach with a big hotel, then there's the Decameron Hotel, that is an all inclusive hotel with a very decent beach.
You got golf courses, hiking, skydiving, shopping, you name it. It will be a great experience to visit Panama. The best way to do it is to go through a tour agent in order to get a professional to handle your visit. If you want to go on your own, it's ok, but get a good country guide and read it before coming for a visit.
