Actually he was pitching badly before the contract extension. I think hes signed on July 19th. On July 8th his ERA was already 4.75. July 8th he pitched 6 innings allowing 10 hits and 5 runs. His next start was july 14th and he pitched 4.1 innings with 8 hits and 7 runs. On July 19th, the day he signed he pitched 8 innings surrendering 4 hits and no runs... but it was against the royals so that doesnt count. On July 24th he pitched 6innings allowing 4 runs so thats respectable. On july 29th he pitched 6innings giving up 4 runs again. On August 3rd he pitched 6 innings giving up 7 runs and 11 hits. August 9th he pitched 6 innings for 2 runs.

He wasnt having a great season before the contract but i guess it was a little more consitant. I think his biggest problem is moving from the anemic national league to the american league.

i know. maybe we'll be able to work on his mechanics in teh offseason so he doesn't give up as many homeruns, although he gave up none tonight. i think he will be the ace of the future.

I am sad to tell you that Beck is not what we members of The Nation had hoped for.
