Usually not... but sometimes that is what it takes for closure in a particularly egregious situation.

Well, the other day - a cashier at WalMart shorted me 5 cents. If I go back tomorrow and demand my 5 cents - I could probably get it. If I'm really loud about it - I might even get the manager to give me an extra $5 for my trouble. But I know her register ID # - the time of the sale - and how much each item cost - etc.
Who are you trying to seek retribution from?
If you are speaking of the "African American" vs. "Mean White Man" issue.... you'll have to come up with a name. Because though my grandfather was a mean white man - he never owned a slave. If you have been a slave - who enslaved you? Where did it happen?

Sometimes. It depends. I know for example who broke into my car and stole my phone and camera. But I did not call the police and I did not confront him. He knows I know and I know he feels shame. He is hooked on drugs. I thought that maybe I would let the guilt fester and maybe that will help him kick the habit like he did before. Its just stuff to me. People are more important than stuff.

But as a rule, I think some sort of retribution or punishment is healthy. Certainly high crimes need to be punished severely and yes, I do support the death penalty for killers.

If retribution is to be interpreted as punishment, then punishment should be employed to extinguish an undesirable behavior when deemed appropriate. The use of punishment should be used conservatively because in the process of using it, you may extinguish certain "desirable behaviors." Also, it encourages "escape behaviors". Because of this, punishment should only be used when an extremely undesirable behavior is happening, and reinforcement of the alternate, desirable behavior is not working. Punishment also often provokes anger from the target, so that is another con to the method of "retribution."

If you believe retribution will make this world better and your life happier, then you should believe there is retribution. If not, why bother to know yes or no?

Are you referring to retribution for African Americans?? What group?? Regarding African Americans we should have received it, but the reality we will never see that money. I know we were promise 40 acres in and a mule after slavery....but ....what can I say.....we need to focus on saving what is left of our heritage and become a strong community.

i believe in retribution up to a point...i don't think it should be capital punishment (as in an eye for an eye, because that went out centuries ago), but, i believe that if something is definitely owed you, you should get it

Revenge is NOT as sweet as people claim. Personally, I would just drop it, and let God mete out the punishment at a time of His choosing.
