Most of this is caused by downloading and clicking 'Next' without reading the rest of the message properly or by clicking on the pop-ups. Download an active cookie protective programme like Windows Defender, also download ad-aware and spybot, and use the software to scan your computer regularly to remove any unwanted downloaders or cookies. You should also download and scan with a virus scanner such as avg as well. All of these downloads are free and are probably about the best on the internet. Running these scans and deletions should sort out problems and make your computer run faster and more efficiently. Hope this helps.

Many of the "free" programs you download on the Internet - especially things like games - are supported by advertising. The best way to avoid them is not to install the programs in the first place.

What you are experiencing is most likely caused by Spyware.
Spyware consists of little programs that get installed on your computer (usually without your consent) while you are web browsing.
There are many anti-spyware programs out there, but many are nearly worthless, and some are actually spyware programs masquerading as antispyware programs.
Two that have gotten good reviews, and that I can personally vouch for as effective and useful are:
Spy Sweeper (http://www.webroot.com/consumer/products/spysweeper/)
Spyware Doctor (http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/)
There are also two free anti-spyware programs that are worth trying:
SpyBot (http://www.safer-networking.org/)
Ad-Aware SE Personal (http://www.lavasoft.com)
If you are going to pay for an antispyware program, use one of the top two, but if you want to try something free, try both of the bottom two.
Finally, to prevent spyware infections in the future, switch to Mozilla Firefox web browser, and use that instead of Internet Explorer. It is just as fast and friendly to use, but it is vastly more secure.

You need to be aware that when you install software, especially freeware, you can't just click NEXT...NEXT without reading the agreement. If you read carefully, you may be agreeing to the company advertising on your hard drive. Even 'respectable' programs like Realplayer do this.

Check for spyware. Run both Ad-aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaw... and Skybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/)...... to remove any spyware. Run both as one may caught something the other missing. Then go to microsoft.com and download Defender to protect against future infections.

Agree with mamadillo.
Nothing is for nothing. Download a freebie, and you will pay for it in SPAM.
A side note: If you are using the Yahoo toolbar, do you have the pop-up blocker enabled?

Get antispyware program. Better, get several. It would be cheaper than wiping your hard drive and reinstalling everything.
