Ok, I have school tomorrow but ever since summer started, I dont sleep at night, like I am wide awake at night and I need to go to bed tonight. When I was in middle school, I used to pop these pills like candy and I never had any reason to be taking them, no allergies, no athsma nothing and it would make me extremely drowsy [thats why i took them in the 1st place] and nothing bad would happen to me. Now I havent done this in a while so I am wondering if I pop one or maybe 2 pills of Benadryl so I can go to sleep, would it harm me?
I wanna take them just so it can put me to sleep tonight. So does popping Benadryl for no reason harm me or nah? I am not planning to overdoe either, just 1 or 2 pills. PLease tell me.

honestly all you need is a half of one..its enough to knock anyone out and yes taking to many can harm you...i take benadryl on a daily basis..take it only as needed, and only half at a time.

Stay away from the drugs, why not try a product that is 100% natural. I use a product called 'Goodnight', which can be bought from the health food stores, you only need a small glass full before going to bed, I guarantee you will be yawning and off to sleep within 10 to 15 minutes of injesting. This works on not only myself but my 18yr old, she swears by it. Please say NO to Benadryl, you do not know the harmful effects of this over the counter chemical. You are also far too young to rely on such rubbish just to get to sleep. You could do worse than wearing some pink to bed, I am a Colour Therapist pink should calm you down and make you a bit sleepy. Good night!

Benedryl is the active ingredient in a lot of over the counter sleep aid products. It won't hurt you, just as long as you follow the directions on the package. I would be a little worried, though, about getting dependant on it. Benedryl is not addictive, but you can still get used to the sleep effect, then be unable to sleep without the medication.
Have you tried a nice cup of herbal tea? Or a really hot bath with scented bath salts? Or reading a good book right before bed. These things have always worked for me.
If sleep issues are a big thing for you, it might be best to see a doctor to rule out other medical conditions, and maybe get a prescription to help you to get to sleep.
Hope this helps!

Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is the active sleep ingredient in Tylenol PM and other over the counter sleep aids. It can cause you to be very drowsy the next morning and make you feel hung over and fuzzy brained so if you are going to use this take ONLY ONE and take it as early as possible so it has a good 12 hours to wear off before you go to school.

Bendryl is an antihistamine and does tend to make people drowsy enough for sleep. For the most part they are not habit forming but psychologically they can be addicting if you have to use them constantly to go to sleep. Your average over they counter sleep aids contain the exact same ingredient. If you are just trying to get back on schedule they shouldn't hurt, just make sure it doesn't become the only way you can get to sleep. Try to reduce your night time caffeine levels and relax a little before bed time to see if it eases you any better.

Taking lots of Benadryl over a period of time like 1-2 weeks will cause you to have trouble breathing and need an inhaler. Also, it will cause you to retain water because you will not be urinating as much. Just use one a night for a week and when you experience these side effects, take a couple of days off of the medicine.

Benadryl is ok to use to help you get to sleep on an occasional basis.
What you don't want to do is become dependent on Benadryl (or any other drug) for sleeping. Try other methods of relaxation prior to going to bed: shower/bath, reading, listening to soothing music, for example. Avoid anything with caffeine or sugar for hours before bedtime (try eliminating caffeine all together), don't eat right before bed. TV right before trying to sleep may also contribute to your insomnia.

Benadryl is pretty safe. Doctors recommend that parents give it to their kids if they need to to sleep on a plane or something.
There are some better over the counter sleep aids that give you very cool dreams.

I take Benadryl on occasion to help me sleep. I don't know of any reasons not to, just don't make it a habit. If you know you can take two safely then I see no reason not to. I would, however, suggest you ask your doctor about this soon.

Good Grief Go Natural
RAW Onion jut a little before you lay down to sleep
Also a Bible under the pillow is a bit comforting to pray for a good first day of school. My Mom told me to do that and it worked a lot. For some reason It Really Works.
