My husband and I are trying to conceive our first child. I went off of ortho-tri-cyclen lo in July. It's now August, I have missed my period (well over a week). (I have been extremely regular with my periods since I started). Now I have sore breast, cramping, nausea, etc. I took a pregnancy test two days after I missed my period and it was negative. I am a little discouraged to take another test. What should I do?

It sounds like you're pregnant. I would wait and take another pregnancy test, maybe it just didn't detect it yet. Get that one that detects the hormone before your missed period or whatever.

I would wait another week or so and then take another test. Just don't get your hopes up too high this time so it won't be such a let down if you aren't pregnant right away.

If it comes back negative there is always the fun of trying again.

Good luck to you both.

It's a possibility you could be pregnant, although it usually takes a good 2-3 months for your body to go back to normal once you are off hormones. The best time to test for pregnancy is at least 2 weeks after a missed period, and a blood test done by your doctor is the most accurate way of testing. Other reasons for period abnormalities include stress, weight gain/loss, thyroid, hormonal imbalance, polyp, cyst, amongst other reasons. If the blood test comes back negative, your doctor can do further testing to determine what the exact cause may be.
