Hm!

I do not belive it's a question of language or culture.

The first motivation is the geographical position, and there is also the past history.

You have to understand that Montreal has a team of past and often winner, and the firm hope of soon to be again.

While Toronto has a team of a few times and a very long ago winners and no hope what so ever to win anything again.

As human logical human being, you cheers for the winner and wish for the best. The choice is pretty easy to me, even if I am closer from Toronto.

A Make Belief fan is delusional and actually thinks they have a shot at the Cup despitre flopping over and over esp. in the semis vs. inferior teams four time sin the '90s.

A Habnot fan is probably even more delusional as they think those two Cup wins '86 and '93 were their divine right not realizing that by trading Roy they cursed their storied team to Make Belief playoff futility.
