The Band used to be the back up band here in Canada for a legendary Canadian singer named Rompin Ronnie Hawkins, who lives about 15 minutes from me. I think Robbie Robinson was only 16 when he was playing in the bars up here. They went on to much success and The Last Waltz turned out to be a great movie. So for my 3 favourite Band songs I would select
1) Up On Crippled Creek
2) Stage Fright,
3) Ophillia.
I hope that they never get together for a reunion gig as far too many bands do this to try and get one last kick at success or the can, and usually end up looking like fools as they try and rekindle their youth and success.

Great question!!! My favorite has to be "it makes no difference"
As far as covers, Dylans "when I paint my masterpiece, The dead did a great cover of the weight, There was also a great version of that in the movie and soundtrack to Easy Rider.
Peace
