I asked the same questions recently and I think I know all the answers:
1)I think you should get it,cause the game play it offers is quite different from psp,and the games have more value(see the scores in sites like gamespot and compare them with those of psp.)
2)I think you should get the DS lite cause although it's a little more expensive but it is lighter, has longer battery life and is smaller and has different screen brightnesses.
3)DS is cheaper than DS lite(psp is more expensive than the both.)
4)I think they are not going to change the price soon.
5)I think you won't spend much time with your psp if you buy the DS.(two people that had both told the same to me.)
If it is expensive for you try to find bundles or buy it from ebay.

Question#1- Should you get it? Absolutely! As far as the amount and quality of games available between the two systems, the DS wins hands down
Question#2-The DS or DS Lite? Definitely the DS Lite. It is better made, has better lighting, and has a better sound system.
Question#3-Which is Cheaper? The DS is cheaper, but by only a few dollars. That's if you find a regular DS anymore. The Lite is only 129.99 at EB/Gamestop. The DS I think is right at 100.00. An alternative is keeping an eye out at your local EB/Gamestop for refurbished systems. They sell these systems at a cheaper price. I saw a refurbished Lite for 99.99.
Question#4- When is it going to be cheaper? It is always a good bet to wait for the Christmas season as far as getting good deals on hardware.
Question#5-How will I spend time with my PSP if I buy a DS? I do not think is an issue. As a person who owns both, I can say that I do not fret over loss time with either system. The reason is that there just is not that many good games for the PSP. When a good PSP game comes out, I play it until I'm done, then I spend the rest of my time with the DS. Not to mention the fact that the DS is getting a new Zelda game.

If money is not really an object, go for the DS lite. It's not just aesthetics that's different, the DS lite is more comfortable, smaller and has more battery life (15-19 hours as opposed to 5-8). The original DS is going to be the cheaper one, 'cos it's been around longer. DS lite will probably never be cheaper than the DS and the DS lite will probably be cheaper around christmas, but don't hold your breath. DS tends to go for innovation games (Nintendogs, Animal Crossing) and quirky games (there's a lawyer game and a doctor game and several puzzle ones) if you like those sort of games, then you may see yourself playing more DS than PSP.
On a side note, if you're pretty much just wanting the DS for Diamond, I'd wait until it's released, as there'll probably be a deal where you can get the system and the game for less.

1.yes
2.DS or DS Lite(it depends if you want the system to be smaller and brighter with a thicker stylus, if you do go with a lite)
3.They both cost the same(But some come with a game, DS:Animal Crossing
DS Lite:New Super Mario Bros./Brain Age. Look on the packaging to see if it comes with a game)
4.It is gonna be the cheapist if you buy it used(i don't think the price will drop within the next year)
5.No.Personally I think the PSP Sucks(The only games tha I really play for mine is Burnout and Twisted Metal)

Check this out, I own both and both are great systems in their own way. However, if I had to pick just one...I'd go with the DS. The PSP is an amazing little gadget in its own way, but mine has been collecting dust for awhile due to a lack of good games whereas the DS has some pretty amazing games out there.
