Sounds like a Harry Lauder's Walking Stick. Sunny spot, normal care. What to watch out for: sometimes suckers grow from the base. They are straight (as opposed to curly) and must be pruned off or they will take strength from your tree.

Enjoy it - they are quite a conversation piece!

It's my favorite plant in the whole wide world. Well, also Weeping Norway Spruce, Redbud, and a gazillion Hydrangea cultivars (oh, and the viburnums). Mine is grafted onto a 4-ft. standard, and is about 8' wide 6' tall now. Full sun, remove any suckers..the only insect I have a problem with are Japanese Beetles. Put it where you can see it all winter...that's when it's at it's best. Mine is right by the walkway to the kitchen door. No one comes to visit that doesn't ask what the crazy twisted plant is. If you want to look it up, the botanical name is Corylus avellana 'Contorta', but I just call mine Harry.

Potato chips with the image of Jesus, The Pope, Elvis, Mary Lou Retton or Elton John on them.
