I know what a touch down is but that is about it. I don't know the rules. It looks interesting, but I can't get into it cause I don't k now what is going on

It starts with a "kick off" . . .
The team with the ball tries to make it to the other side of the football field to score a touch down.
In the process, they are matched by the "defense" -- the opposing team.
They have 4 tries to get 10 yards.
If they can't make the 10 yards down the football field in three tries, they can opt to get a field goal (and score 1 point -- I think it's one point, might be 3), or they can kick it to the defensive team and then they try to swim upstream . . . opps that's what salmon do. Or, they can try a last ditch attempt to make a the total of 10 yards in the 4th and final try.
If they make 10 yds., either by passing, running, a combination, then they have what is called a "first down," and they start their way to the 10 yds. in 4 attempts again.
They "huddle" to pick their plays.
They can fumble the ball, and the other team gets it.
They can have their pass "picked off" and the other team gets it.
There's a ton of things that can happen.
But the basic premise is, get the football down to the goal posts to score a touch down. They have 4 attempts to make 10 yds.

well you have 4 tries to get the ball to move 10 yards and get a first down again. then you have the formation that the players line up in which gets real complicated and you also have penalties for doing things wrong which is why they throw the flag. there is a whole lot that goes into it but if you can tell which team is which and know when a penalty is in effect and what down they are on you pretty much know enough to enjoy a game
