I missed their "deadline" by 13 days. I'll have no health benefits and only what I now have i my retirement fund, which isn't very much, certainly not enough to retire on.

This is a tough deal... can't say I've heard of this. I think you got a raw deal, and I question the legality of it... I also wonder how they get away with it. Regardless, you may want to hire a special attorney who specializes in this type of law. In the meantime, I would definitely get my own retirement fund going in a Roth IRA... at least you can be sure to retire with something. By the way, you can roll any retirement money you accumulated to your own IRA as well. See your CPA or tax advisor for details.

If you are comfortable enough to retire then yes, if not please think about your actions carefully. The job market for people over the age of 50 is tough, and a lot of companies are not going to pay what you want to make. If you want to put out some resumes and see if you can find a better deal for yourself then by all means do so. But don't quit without having a plan in place. (either enough to live on and retire or another job to go to)
