It depends on what kind of music your talking about. If it`s just rock&roll then Led Zepplin is. If your talking Heavy Metal then your talking about Black Sabbath. If your talking today`s music you would have to say Metallica. I know theres gonna be disagreements on this but that`s the facts according to poles and VH1.

personally: John Lennon, because his music wasn't only damn catchy, but it spoke to the major culture, the "counterculture", of the world then and now. it has great staying power. as of talent and actual greatest...i'd have to go with R.E.M. i know your probably thinking i'm crazy but hear me out: They have released over thirty albums and yet every single one was enjoyed by the critics and sold amazingly. no other band, not even the beatles i dare say, released that many and were followed all of the way.

Led Zeppelin.
The best drummer ever, the best engineer (Jimmy Page), one of the best songwriting teams ever (Page/Plant), without a doubt the greatest studio or live band ever.

Led Zepplin. They have influenced the majority of the rock groups, and even a few of the country groups. I think it was Diddy, or whatever his name is, that used the riff from Kashmir in one of his songs, and the Beaste Boys used one of their riffs in one of their songs off of Licensed to Ill. They even influenced a little rap, so they are the best of all time.

without the impact of their music, hip hop r&b and even some rock & roll, would have gone a completely different way.
