Listen everybody feels this way sometimes, if you always felt like you were great and contributing to the some total of the worlds goodness and the planet was lucky to have you, you'd get slapped, I bet you would.
How long has this been going on? If it's just today- go get a smoothy and take a night off. Relax. If this has been going on for 2 weeks or more open the Big Book o' Mental Diseases or whatever they have there and look up Depression. You're at medical school darling, there have to be a number of good drs. to choose from.

Its normal dear! Every person at some point of life feels like that. Usually it happens when u see that some of ur wishes are not getting fulfilled. So, the solution is to look at others, who are not as much lucky as u. Others also have problems. Any life is not meaningless, as far as u are doing something to make others happy. Never concentrate on urself, never feel undersatiated, always be thankful to those small blessings that u have got. Then u can feel the difference u are making to the world, even it is a small one around u.

You know, I had reached a point in my life when I thought that if I didn't do anything significant, if I didn't influence millions of people and change something in this world (like Elvis Presley, Einstein or Pope John Paul the second did), my life was in vain. Then, one day, when I was changing the channels, being bored and thinking of my insignificant life, I "bumped" into one of Eddie Murphy's movies, The Saint, I think. He was telling, on TV, the story if that little girl who was throwing back into the water some of the thousands of the dying starfish on the beach. He asked her something like this: "Why do you even bother to do that? There are thousands of them, they're gonna die, anyway, what difference does it make if you save one?" The girl's answer was: "To the one that I saved it does."
You are a medical student. One day you will save a life. What is a life? A life of a mother or a father is the universe for her/his children. You don't save just a life, you change an entire universe.

I think more people feel this way than you may realize. But take heart, find things that you enjoy - like an early morning sunrise, or a red rose, or a favorite fragrance. I know it sounds like something from the sound of music but all of these things make a difference in how I view the world. The next time you walk down crowded hallway make eye contact with someone you don't know and smile. They will more than likely smile back. You caused that reaction. You made a difference.

I think many of us feel that way at one time or another.
Just remember, you are NOT worthless. You have family and friends who love you and care about you.
If you have time, seek out a counselor to talk about your problems. You may be overwhelmed with school work and need break.
You make a big difference- in the lives of the people you touch- your friends, family, and soon your patients!
You have a lot to look forward to. You need to overcome some obstacles first. Don't let the obstacles stop you. That's why you should speak with a counselor.
Good luck! You deserve to be happy.

I find that a lot of people who don't really value the family in modern society feel this way. They spend all their time rushing to get their degrees, rushing to get a high paying job, rushing to be successful, and in the end they have nothing to show for it. They were too busy working to get out, travel, and most importantly, have kids and create a family. Having kids is one of the most fundamentally important things a person can do with their lives, and it is unquestionably the most fulfilling.

I dunno are you hot? That can cheer people up too. A good personality is like a warm fuzzy little puppy sometimes uno. Just don't over do it. I really don't know I like to watch House. I had a student doctor or intern that went crazy while I was seeing him in his office. He broke the windows out chasing around some imaginary snake. It was bizarre. I was supposed to get $250,000 for that as an out of court settlement. He eventually committed suicide with his meds. I went to his funeral he had a twin brother it was creepy. His Mom apologized to me. I keep getting collection notices from the damn hospital too. Where's my money?

oohh yeah. i've been there. just a few months ago, something happened at work that just rocked me. made me feel like i've wasted the last 20 years at this job. i'm better now, but i was a mess for quite a while. remember the good things about yourself. remember the things that you've accomplished. you're not pathetic, you're human. it's natural to feel this way sometimes.

No you are not pathetic, I think most people feel that way every now and then. Do something about it, Make a habit of doing something nice or helpful for someone every day (outside of the realm of your job or schooling), that will make you feel better about yourself.

Totally normal feelings. Everyone feels that way from time to time.....
really in the grand scheme of eternal time, and the vastness of the universe, you are meaningless......just a speck.....
the only reason anyone matters is because someone thinks they do. even if that someone is your self.
