I think that's a very tough question to answer because it really depends on the job.
The short answer is A LOT. But that's not saying its bad.
For example, I have a friend who is a paralegal in the U.S. Attorney's Office (in a midwestern state), who absolutely loves her job and the people she works with. I know of some paralegals who work with private practice attorney's in large firms who feel just the opposite.
What you need to know is that the legal profession is very demanding--there are timelines that MUST be met, there is stress, people can be difficult, etc. but there are also rewards: accomplishment, being absolutely CRITICAL to litigation and becoming well versed in the law.
I've attached two links to get more information (1) prepared by the National Association of Legal Professionals and (2) the National Association of Legal Assistants--two great organizations. Good luck with your decision!

It can be, just like any other job. Many lawyers have the same as A-type gung-ho personality as many entrepreneurs. And for the same reasons.
As with most things, it all depends on who you work for. And since paralegals in almost all states can get their bosses into trouble for any ethical or legal violations, generally one of the requirements of the relationship is that the paralegal must do exactly what they are told to do by their boss.
That doesn't require a backbone (in the sense of standing up to your boss). Rather, it requires a good working relationship, and mutual respect, which is completely different.
