Maybe it's denail on my part, but lately I've been hearing a lot of 80s songs on the local oldies station, and I think, "No! It's way too soon!"
As it is, they've stopped playing 50s songs. Now it's just 60s, 70s and 80s. Nineties oughta be coming up pretty soon... instant nostalgia!

The reason why you don't hear to many 50's songs is because most of the people who Liston to the 50's are in a nursing home or dead. For a song to become an oldie it has to be at least 10 years old or older. So the 90's are part of the oldies.

ive wondered that too. they might be adding decades for different material. you can only hear those songs so many times. i cant handle the oldies stations, it seems they play 1 song that i like and 20 that i hate. its too bad they stick to top 40. theres alot of good music out there thats never played.

I would like to think it's an oldie if it is at least 10 years old. That's a decade an each decade has different tastes and styles.

I think they should be at least 20 years old before they are even considered oldies, or are being used as elevator music.

well..in true radio speak ...a song that is 6 months old is officially looked at as an "oldie"...and yes..."oldies" sations are having to update their playlists because the younger demos are the ones with the "disposable income" now...

27. I was born in 1976, and made sentient recognition of music at about age 3. While highly subjective, my answer at least has logic. And everybody has a different answer based on their age, this way.
