Because society preys on the rich and famous. As soon as someone famous who seems perfect steps out of line in any way (whether they meant it or not), they get stepped on hard, rediculed, and in some cases exiled. Some people say they won't even watch his movies anymore.
But there are plenty of actors, actresses, male and female, that have done something very wrong, or are more terrible than how the media portrays Mel Gibson, and many don't get the same treatment he's gotten. People still watch their movies. There are a lot of musicians who portrayed themselves as racists and now make movies with the kinds of people they spoke against. And they still have fans and jobs as if they never made racist music. So I think Mel made a big mistake, but people are blowing it way out of proportion.

I hear ya. I suppose with Mel being a star they make it even worse. You show your true side when your drunk. He may not of meant the words to sound so harsh. Also with him staring in the movie The Passions and him saying what he did about the jews I can only imagine how bad that looks.

But there was an underlying current that he was not a big fan of Jewish people. And with his father a Holocaust Denier (and never repudiated by Mel), these nagging doubts linger

Mel was just chillin - I don't know why everybody is grillin him for such a small reason. Besides that, it's his own personal business when he gets drunk and whatever he says when he's drunk. Unfortunately today's populations are more concerned about what their favorite actors have to say rather than what their leaders have to say.

Hey may not have "meant to say it" but he does feel that way. See, alcohol help to remove that lovely filter that blocks most people from making those comments in normal social situations. I agree there are alot of important thing going on, but his "oops, did not mean it" defense if a bunch of crap.

Yeah every one should get of his back, the poor guy he did nothing wrong. There is some truth to what he said and he has the balls to say it, good for him. The jews should get over it and move on. Every one should stop following the media. l'm glad l live in Australia.

Of course there are more important things going on, but come on. This is a big time celebrity caught red handed.
In America, especially, celebrity news tops it all. How do you think Paris Hilton is so famous? Controversy.
