I am trying to determine thow to keep my son's lego from always falling apart when he is playing with them or trying to build them. We would like to keep some of the Pirate boats together to put up in his room.

You are going to want a glue which bonds ABS, which is what LEGO bricks are made from. (ABS stands for "acrylonitrile butadiene styrene." You can find out a bit more about LEGO and their composition by going to wikipedia and looking up "LEGO.")

The quick and dirty answer to your question: go to the local Wal-Mart or equivalent and buy two or three different brands or model glue. Don't try to use Elmer's white glue or wood glue; this will not work well.

Look for brands which are designed to be used on plastic models.

Pick out a few bricks you son does not care about...the little 1x2 or 1x4 bricks should be good for this, I think. Try putting a little of the different glues on the bricks and clicking them together, and leave them overnight. (Probably best to do this in a well-ventilated place).

Remember that some of these glues work by dissolving a biy of the plastic to form a bond, so you want to be careful about not using too much glue. You may have to experiment a bit before you find the type of glue you like best and seems to hold best.

The more complex answer:

Write to LEGO Consumer Services
LEGO Shop At Home
P.O. Box 1310
Enfield, CT 06083-1310
USA

or go here: http://www.lego.com/eng/service/contactusform.asp for a contact at LEGO Shop at Home...

or...from: http://www.ericharshbarger.org/lego/faq.html

"Do you use glue when constructing your sculptures?

No, I do not use glue on my personal constructions; I will use it on other models if a client so requests (this is usually necessary to ensure the model will get shipped safely). All of the models are 100% LEGO bricks, with no extraneous materials used for construction, adhesion, decoration, et cetera.

***When I do glue a model for a client I use the following glue: Oatey, All Purpose (PVC, CPVC, ABS). It is available at most hardware stores (look in the plumbing section)."

Hope this helps!

part of the fun of play is taking it apart a putting it together again. if he never wants to take it apart the i guess you could glue it together. but remember glue holds things together for ever
