Dude, it is one of the funniest (NOT scariest) movie series of the 1980s and the 1990s. Chucky is supposed to be a doll which was possessed by the soul of a serial killer named Charles Lee Ray in Chicago. Charles Lee Ray was known as the Lakeshore strangler and he is being chased by the police. The police shoots him and before Charles dies, he transfers his soul to a doll (because that is the closest thing to him at the time) using vodoo magic so that he can stay alive and get his revenge on the detective who shot him.
Now, the problem is that if he stays in that body for too long he starts becoming human AND he will be stuck there permanently. So he has to get the kid to whom he first told his secret (that he is a possessed doll and his real name is Charles Lee Ray) and move into his body.
Soooooo, he just goes around killing everybody.
There are five movies in the series.

The Bride of Chucky (yes he does get married)
The Seed of Chucky (and yes, he does have a kid)

chucky is a doll who is possessed by an evil ex- murderer who was resurrected by the murderer's girl friend or something like that, then the possessed doll starts killing the family who it lives with...it's a complicated story!
