Serious things.I don't want more partisan bickering. I am trying to find ways to make us work together as a country instead of looking like petulent children to the rest of the world.

I don't know about three things - but I have a theory that I'll toss at you. Take your time and think each part of it through, and then see if you agree.
My theory is, liberals tend to think they are more intellectual. Conservatives tend to think they are more moral. Liberals are offended that conservatives think they have a "corner on the market" for morals; conservatives are offended that liberals think they are not very smart. Until we can get past those perceptions of each other and understand that there are moral liberals and intelligent conservatives, we're going to have a hard time having any kind of meaningful dialogue.

1) don't ever assume anyone who disagrees with you is stupid. offer them the courtesy of believing that they have thought over their opinions as much as you have. then beat them senseless with facts!
2) offer some pieces of reality to pin the discussion too. either of us can say "liberals are baby murderers" or "conservatives hate poor people", but such opinions are nearly meaningless to share with each other. i say nearly meaningless because they do manage to be inflammatory. what is more useful is to say "why don't you think x" or "if x then why not y" and give the debate some common ground to wrestle over. those were the facts i mentioned before. at least it gives us something to talk about besides how evil our opposition is!
3) take a time out for sincerity. the thing that bothers me about internet politics, is that people seem incapable of commenting on common perspectives. when i see a question that is liberal in its politics, the first few answers seem to show that people are running far into conservative territory and answering as quickly and viciously as possible. likewise with conservative questions and the first few liberal answers. it would be nice if we used these forums as a way to talk to each other, rather than simply trying to score points with our own kind who may be reading. use this platform to show how reasonable you can be. then perhaps we will all feel less alienated from each other.
cheers... thanks for giving us the opportunity to make progress!

Sorry. I can't think of even one thing that can stop the partisan bickering. Especially not when I see one person post an answer here saying "Denounce religion .............." I can never get along with someone like that. That person is a bickering partisan and he makes me want to keep on bickering with him.

1. listen to other people BEFORE you speak instead of tuning them out until it's your turn
2. Be educated on all sides of a topic, not just yours
3. Wake up and realize we all have the same general goals in mind, just different paths.

We could join hands and destroy all of Islam together.
We could form a national unity party who's primary goal is to outgrow typical partisan politics(and adopt Conservative values from republicans and constitutional freedoms from democrats)
We could raise much needed money together by declaring that all churches must pay a national property tax. Churches that do not conform would obvously either be financially corrupt or are not collecting tithes from thier members and so are full of hypocrites and need to disband anyway.

I'm with Victoria. Awesome answer!
Each side needs to realize that everyone else really DOES want what's best for our country. The only difference is, that each has a varied perspective on what would be best.
Perhaps we each need to concentrate on the biggest problems facing our country today:
1. Insufficient medical coverage, which goes in hand with exorbitant perscription medication costs, and actual medical care.
2. Crime rates. Is there a solution? Perhaps teaching morality (NOT religion) in schools will help.
It's a little off-topic, but I once knew a little boy who was eight years old, and didn't know it was wrong to steal.
3. Education. It should revert back to the States, and each state should take a stronger stance on it. Fire any of the teachers who have more than a 20% fail rate per class. Period.
Each party can agree that these are huge problems facing our country. So, we need to seek a more moderate ground, and find a solution.
