pretty sure it's 3 stops, assuming she starts with a full tank.

Very tricky question...yes, 5 could be right, however, I do agree with 3 too....
The whole trip is 1370 miles (685 x 2).
22.5 miles per gallon, on a 19 gal tank, is 427.5 miles per tank.
(22.5 x 19)
The tank she has will take her 427.5 miles.
Stop one. 2nd tank will take her to 855 miles.
Stop two. 3rd tank will take her to 1282.5 miles.
Stop three. 4th tank will take her to 1710 miles. (which is way more than she needs...)
So, the number of stops for gas is 3.
However, the number of total stops is 5. (once at DisneyLand, and once at home on the way back).

685 x 2 = 1370 which is the length of the round trip
19 x 22.5 = 427.5 which is the number of miles on a tank of gas.
3 X 427.5 = 1282.5
So assuming minimum gas to start with, three tanks will still not be enough. She will need to put gas in her tank FOUR times.

685 one way and she makes a round trip that means it is a 1370 mile trip. Her tank holds 19 gallons and avg of 22.5 mpg. So with a full tank she can go 427.5 miles on a full tank. That means she needs 3.2 full tanks of gas so she is starting with one tank means she needs 2.2 full tanks. She needs to make 3 stops, 2 for a full tank and 1 for the rest of the way.

The answer is 3.
685 miles each way is 1370 miles.
1370 miles divided by 22.5 miles per gallon is 60.88 gallons for the trip.
60.88 gallons needed for the trip minus the 19 gallons already in the car means you have to stop and buy 41.88 gallons.
The car holds 19 gallons - takes 3 stops.

I got 3 stops.
19 * 22.5 = 427.5 miles per tank of gas.
685 miles round trip is 685 * 2 = 1,370 miles total
1,370 miles needed to be driven DIVIDED by the amount of miles per full tank of gas 427.5 EQUALS 3.204678363
So, if you have a full tank when you leave you will need to stop 3 times in order to get back home.

If she gets 22.5 miles per gallon, then she can travel 427.5 miles on one 19 gallon tank of gas. For a round trip, she will travel 1370 miles. 1370/427.5=3.2. That means she will have to stop 3 times since she started out with a full tank of gas.

Round trip is 685 x 2, or 1370. Can go 22.5 miles per gallon, w/ 19 gallons per tankful, for 22.5 x 19, or 427.5 miles per tank. 1370 divided by 427.5 is 3.2, so you'd need 3.2 tankfuls, but since you started with a full tank, you'd need to add another 2.2 tankfuls, and to get 2.2 tankfuls, you'd need to make 3 stops.

685x2=1370 miles
19x22.5=427.5 gallons on a tankful. She has to go 1370 miles, so,
1370 divided by 427.5=3.2 times she must stop. I would say 4 because 3 times will not get it. She gets 427.5 miles from a full tank and if she stops for 3 refills, that is 3x427.5=1282.5 and that isn't enough to get her the 1370 miles she has to go.

3 times:
685 each way is 1370 round trip.
22.5 per gal times 19 gal tank is 427.5 miles per tank.
Drives 427.5 miles fills the tank, drives another, fills the tank (total miles 855). Drives another, fills tank (1,282.5 total miles). Drives last 87.5 miles.
3 refills.

If you have a full tank of gas and your car has a 19 gallon tank ... you can travel 427.5 miles before filling up. That leaves 942.5 miles remaining on your trips and 2.2046783 fill ups. :-)
