by mp4, I assume you mean AAC, and I also assume you mean purchased from iTunes store.

You can burn them to a cd. there are several other methods one includes putting them in a iMovie, then publishing it, then pulling out the tracks..Ouch.

Itunes will convert your own tracks back and forth between mp3 and aac(non-copy-protected)
Do the cd thing!

Convert Mp4 To Mp3 Itunes

2016-10-07 06:16:00 · answer #2 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

I apologize, I'm not currently at home (on work's computer).

However, the option is under 'Preferences' -> Importing -> Select mp3

Here you will select your default file type (mp3) so that any new files will convert directly to mp3.

After you have selected mp3 as your regular conversion type. Then you can highlight any files that are currently in a different format (mp4, wma) and you can right click to convert to mp3.

Don't forget .wma files will not be accepted into iTunes and will automatically be converted to your *default* file type (as explained above).

Hope this helps!
Jason

you'll get the full rundown here (for Windows XP PC)

for .m4a (AAC audio) files:

edit> preferences> advanced> importing. click the "Import Using:" drop down arrow and choose mp3 encoder. Then right-click the file and click "convert to mp3" voila! it converts to mp3 and you can drag the mp3 file from the itunes library to whatever folder you want it to go in.

for .m4p (AAC protected audio files):

burn to cd, then import (rip) using the mp3 encoder in itunes, Windows Media Player, or whatever CD ripper you want.

Or get an analog-audio capture waveform program (wavepad free trial is good, blaze media pro is too, but it's $50) and record "what u hear". play the song, it will be recorded, then hit stop. You can normalize the song so it's at a normal volume and cut the silence off of the beginning and end. then save as a wav file and encode to mp3 with itunes. (described above)

for mp4/m4v files:
(itunes will try to convert these to ipod format usually)

you can just record the sound with a program as it plays, then save to audio file. This always works. Some programs will extract the audio from an mp4/m4v if it's not protected.

And lastly, if you want to convert to wma, just drag your mp3 into Windows Movie Maker, put it on the storyboard/timeline and save the file, it will automatically save to wma.

keep in mind that itunes will convert unprotected wma's to whatever format it's set to (mp3 in this case), but it won't create wma files.

Burn the songs to a CD, then record them back into your system with the preferences set to record at MP3 or WMA.
