Yes its human nature,if they are driving behind you then you automatically think they are looking for fault with your driving,so you check your speed, brake to 30mph as you enter the zone etc, make sure you indicate, they are actually very distracting because you spend so much time looking in the mirror to see what they are doing you don't pay attention to whats in front;so as its dangerous I think they should ban all police vehicles from driving within 1/4mile of the back of a civilian vehicle-now that would be a good traffic law !

Paranoid might be a bit strong, but I'm certain that no-one feels more comfortable because a traffic cop is driving behind them. The police are supposed to help the public, but I've never found a traffic cop who helped me. All they do is try to score as many points towards their quota as they can. I've left England because I would lose my licence if I was pulled over one more time. It's not as if the traffic laws are logical. They are made for the dumbest folks in the most dangerous vehicles at the most dangerous time. So what's wrong with doing 90 in a BMW on a motorway, at 2am when there is no other vehicle in sight, and I am completely sober and wide awake, and have driven for 20 years accident free.
Then this traffic cop appears out of the service station, and immediatekly starts flashing his lights. Scary.
If all police were intelligent enough to use discretion it would be OK - but most of them are more interested in reaching their quota.

It is not just you. I get so paranoid, they must know it too, I am sure that everyone drops down to the right speed, they must love it I have only ever been stopped once and that was for speeding. I know I was naughty and I should not have done it but I was in a rush to get home to my son and I was clocked doing 80 on the motorway. I had to go and sit in the police car and I felt so ashamed! I acted like a dumb woman and I said that I hadnt realised how fast I was going and that I very rarely drive on the motorway and that I had never been in trouble before (which I havent) and that I was so very sorry and would make sure that I watched my speed in future. I got cautioned and was told 5 mph more then I would have been looking at a nice fine and some points. I was lucky!

It's not just you. I get worried sometimes when I see a cop behind me. I think that's probably normal. The thing that bothers me is when your driving down the freeway, and someone else has gotten pulled over and the cop is standing outside that person's car and everyone on the freeway slows down as though the cops going to say, "OOH look another speeder, YOu stay right here while I go get in my cruiser to give that person a citation. " GRRRRr

I use to be a big sissy with cops behind me also now I don't mind them.
I have a friend who are you ready for this had a cop speed past her. She is a reserve officer and knew cops weren't allowed to speed unless there was an emergency and they had there lights on. She decided to stay behind him going as fast as he was. He ended up getting behind her and pulled her over. He asked her why she was driving so fast she said "to keep up with you".
He was pissed. She could care less . She proved her point half of the cops out there think they are above the law. They drive vehicles that we tax payers pay for and they pass us going 15 over.
To say all that I am not afraid of cops behind me anymore. I try to never go more than 5 over. If they want to pull me over for that let them. But my friend well he wrote her a ticket.

The sight of a police car always makes you nervous... even when your not doing anything unlawful!! I have been caught speeding twice, both times had that sick feeling in my stomach (scared I might lose my license). I don't think the police are out to get joe public, but they do make our roads safer. I've learnt my lesson (twice)!

specific on the instant I had 4 law enforcement officials seem at me and that i'm 17 with out enable. I purely stick to velocity cut back and attempt to no longer stare at them too long. Ipersistent on my own so i do no longer comprehend what they might do to me if i'm getting pulled over.

its just paranoia. Normal people check their seatbelts are on, that their speed is legal and that the beer is hidden. Just because you are paranoid, doesnt mean they are not out to get you - they will if they are in the mood.
