My husband and I will be having christmas eve at our home when we move, it will be a 900 sq foot apt? How many people can we comfortably have? What are some good appetizers and desserts can I serve? How can I do this on a budget? Any suggestions.?

Chips, veggies, and dips are always easy and usually pretty cheap. For dessert, just do some Christmas cookies. I bet some of your guests will want to bring something as well. (we always do) So, maybe plan a few things but see what everyone else will bring. I imagine you can get 20-30 in your apartment. And so it won't be a big shock to your budget, try setting aside some money each week or month for the party.

Well, yes, actually.

You will need to forgo the traditional Christmas Tree. It take up too much floor space. Go with a small (1 foot) redecorated tree as a center piece on an end table. You can put your gifts under the table, or on the table.

To decorate the inside get a T-55 stapler (that is the one that is used by telecommunications installers and has the round staples) at the molding where the walls reach the ceiling, staple up the Christmas lights so that they circle the room. Once the lights are up, use plastic green garland intertwined around the lights wire, and evenly space the ornaments so that they go around the room. It has a nice effect when the lights are off.

I would simple invite 3 of your closets friend couples, or immediate family depending. Eight people is about all you will get in there in comfort. It is a small room. As far as the rest of it: the usual Christmas cookies, egg nog, and a good Christmas move on the television. I would suggest A Christmas Carol with George C. Scott. See links for other ideas. Enjoy!

Really the sq footage makes no difference, its how your place is layed out. We did it last year and it was a nightmare. First decide are you having a meal? If so, then you need to make sure that not only is there a place to sit for everyone, but a place to set their food when they are eating. A suggestion, see if your complex has a room you can rent or "borrow" most have a common room, or cabana, etc. See if you're not to late to get it for that special party. It is bound to be more comfy and most places don't charge you to use it. You may want to rent some chairs so you have enough seating. Stick with easy appetizers, fruits and veggies, cheese and meat. If your a good cook search online at recipe sites but go for things that aren't too fancy as far as ingredients. If you have a lot of people, you may run in to allergy issues. Simple is better. Far as deserts, eclairs, cookies, brownies, cake, pie. Again, go simple. Flair up simple foods with an elegant display. Make a centerpiece using christmas colors or either candles or flowers. Use linen napkins, don't have them? Sew your own. Presentation will make the food better regardless what you serve. If you are seriously tight on cash, consider a potluck. If its close family and friends, everyone will enjoy sharing their favorite dish. Be sure to organize who is bringing what in advance so you don't end up with nothing but deserts. Keep things simple. If you don't own china, go with chinette. Much easier to clean up and these days unless you are wanting a sit down formal dinner, for the buffet its pretty standard any more.

Good Luck

Have everyone over for appetizers and cocktails only instead of a formal dinner. That way you don't have to fit everyone around a table, and save on the cost of a formal dinner.

If it's family have a pot luck or have a family member each bring a part of the dinner. I usually have Easter. My sister brings the salad. My MIL brings dessert, my mom Usually brings shrimp, breads and my uncle the wine.

Plan a white christmas eve dinner I think its a swedish custom. Serve only white food. Each guest brings a dish. Serve champagne. After you all eat and drink tell them you are so pleased they came and then invite them to join to view decorations or windows around your area plan to serve coffee and tea back at your place and then send them home. You can still make midnight mass or other church service together as well

Finger foods sugguestions, Cracker and cheese orderuves, sandwiches cut in quaters and arranged nice on plate, fondues of your choise, , salads, or maybe even do a taco salad
