Helen Shapiro was a sixties pop star. She had a very powerful voice and it was quite distinctive. Her first hit in 1961 was called Don't treat me like a child and it reached No.3. Subsequent hits followed with You Don't Know and Walking Back To Happiness both reaching Number 1. She never achieved another Number 1 after that although follow up to "Walking...." Tell Me What He Said made number 2. Her first single was released when she was only 14 and she had signed for EMI whilst still at school. As far as I know she is still the youngest female artist to reach number 1

All I can add is that she retired from singing only about a year or so ago. She was singing Gospel music in churches, was attractive, with a good strong voice, a little deeper than average,
and a very nice person. I can remember seeing her picture on the front page of the Daily Mirror, when she hit No. 1 with Walking Back To Happiness.
