why is it so hard for a man with low sperm count to get his lady "me" pregnant though all it needs is ONE good swimmer!

Its all about odds. Sure it can happen....just like winning the lottery. Not impossible but highly unlikely.

Many of the sperm that are ejaculated die long before reaching the egg. Some go through the wrong tube, some get tangled in mucus and can't make it into the cervix. And men with low counts generally have low motility-which means many of their sperm are abnormal in shape and size and are incapable of fertilizing an egg. I know it can be frustrating-my hubby has low sperm count as well and we are having trouble conceiving.

If you've ever watched those shows on the Discovery Channel about conception, pregnancy and childbirth it's amazing how very miraculous fertilization really is. It seems like it is the simplest thing, but even in the most ideal conditions, the odds are not in the favor of fertilization and implantation. That one good swimmer has very low odds of making it all the way, especially if the rest of the swim team is dwindling. It's one of those "planets are aligned" events.

Have you considered invitro fertilization?

Its a matter of probability. Lets make the numbers simple:

Lets say that 1 in 10 sperm will get through all of the various barriers
a vagina has to sperm and get through the egg covering to actual fertilize
the egg.

Now, if he produces ONE sperm, 9 times out of 10, you won't get
fertilizied.

However, if he produces 100 sperm, sure, 90% of them will fail, but
10% of 100 is 10 - that is, to say 10 of them might get in.

Your anatomy is sperm hostile - very hostile. Instead of it being 1in 10,
its probably closer to 1 in 100000 or more. Therefore, he has to produce
a HUGE number of sperm for there to be any reasonable chance for
one to get through.

You're defenses are probably normal. His sperm count is low.
However, your defenses could be extraordinarily effective (say
1 in 100000000) and his sperm count could be normal and it would
have the same effect.

My hubby has a low sperm count...it only takes one sperm youare right. You need to chart your cycle, find the most oppurtune time to conceieve (you can use mymonthlycycles.com its free) and you can find out exactly when you ovualte. Have sex every other day at that time...worked for me. I was also on clomid for another unrelated problem, that may work for you also

He may have a low sperm count, but that also means they are not that strong. Has the doctor recommended him to go on any meds to help?

biology 101, hon..
the more sperm he has, the better chance for his swimmers to reach your egg.. and although it only takes one-- the EGG is the one who decides with one to let in..
so the swimmer may be knocking on the door, but it's your egg that's not opening it! :P

TRY HAVING SEX WHEN YOUR EGG IS HALF WAY DOWN THE TUBE SO HIS LITTLE SWIMMER WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE IT! ALL YOU NEED IS ONE SPERM TO FINISH THE RACE! YOU WILL HAVE BETTER CHANCE IF THE EGG HALF WAY OUT........USUALLY THE FEMALE SPERM LAST THREE DAYS INSIDE THE TUBE...THE BOY SPERM SWIMS FASTER BUT DIES FASTER!! ..GO BABY GIRL!!!

My husband got me pregnant even though he had testicular cancer, the surgery for it and chemo. We were told the chances were less than 4%. So just be patient, it will happen!
