Can someone explain the differences between the golgi apparatus and the endoplasmic reticulum?

The E.R. is where most cell products (e.g. lipids, carbs, cell membranes) are synthesized. The Golgi Apparatus is the place where chemicals are modified, sorted, and distributed to other places (e.g. out of the cell).

In a nutshell, the Golgi apparatus receives proteins from the ER and then modifies and exports them.
