there is a song by Martina McBride called "Concrete Angel". Every time I hear that song I cry. It's about a little girl that is constantly being abuse and no one helps her. The little boy next door is her friend and hears everything that happens to her. By the time anyone decides to help her, she is killed by her mother.
I can't help but feel sorry for any child that can not defend itself against the rage of adults. I have so many baby cousins and a niece and nephew. I have a special place in my heart for helpless people and animals.

Well, I knew this guy. I found out well after the fact that he died in Iraq. Well, shortly after I heard the news, I heard this country song. I'd never heard it before, because I don't usually listen to country. It was "Letters From Home" and I think the singer is John Michael Montgomery. It comes to this part where the soldier had received a letter from his dad and said "you make me proud". And then he sings something about "nothing funny when a soldier cries". I just start bawling every time I hear that.

I can see clearly now the rain has gone - it was having another outing in the charts when our friend died in a motorbike accident. It seemed to be playing all the time and I cant hear it now without going back to the shock and pain of that time. It is definitely a song which caught a moment albeit a very sad moment. It makes me think of him flying free somehow.

There's three that are pretty much guaranteed to bring the odd tear to my eye......all folk songs too....lol
1) 'Absent Friends' by a chap called Vin Garbutt
2) 'No Man's Land' by Eric Bogle
3) 'The Band Played Waltzing Matilda' by Eric Bogle
Oh, and Leonard Cohen's 'If It Be Your Will' - I heard that just after sitting by my mum as she slipped away in hospital....

This is Us by Mark Knopfler and Emmy Lou Harris on the All the Roadrunning CD. This came out a couple months after my 44 yr. old husband of 23 yrs died suddenly of sudden cardiac arrest and EVERYTHING in this song is played out exactly as our life played out. I was watching Imus in the morning and it happened to play and I sat and bawled like a baby-and it was as if the song was written for US!

Not Even the Trees by Hootie and the Blowfish, its definately about someone who is dead, his mother I think, and it goes like this
I am a stranger in my home, living life all on my own, and as I lay down memories of you just me keep going on, and I sit an I realise that he took you too soon, and no-ones listenin to me, not even the trees.
It just makes my cry every time...
