Try to find a topic that people don't know much about or think they know alot about it but really don't. Another criteria is choose a topic that will rub people the wrong way like boycotting Disneyland, but something you believe in. Abortion, gun control, and the death sentence have been extremely over-used. Be original. Maybe something like making teenagers wait longer to drive and safety issues or harsher laws for something that affects you close to home. Making P.E. mandatory in schools for health reasons and the rising corollation to obesity in children. Another idea might be, we need to reform govt or we might turn into a Nazi/Communist state. Various things like taking away our right to bear arms and free speech, etc... Hope this helps.

I would pick something controversial like abortion, the use of animals for testing medications, or racial/political/gender issues. It is usually easier to pick the less popular side of the arguement because that way you will not be as likely to make leaps in logic because of your own belief structure. So, if you believe that animal testing is bad and cruel, you will probably write a better paper if you are arguing for animal testing.
Good luck! :)

You're probably being asked to write a five paragraph essay in which case the subject matter isn't important as long as you have the form correct.
Write about something that interests you. Really flex your intellectual muscles on writing good sentences and good paragraphs. That's what I looked for as a writing teacher.

Despite what all your scruffy, weird-laughing classmates who sit in the back row say,...
Legalization of Marijuana is NOT a persuasive senior paper.
Unless it's college.

How about how gangs are moving out into the suburbs and taking their violence with them? What solutions can law enforcement officials come up with? How will this effect the local school system?
