I just got a Monroe piercing and I got my nose pierced. My nose looks fine, gets a little white goo around the hole when I wake up in the am, but it's not swollen and looks fine, But I went out the other night and I couldn't stop messing with the monroe. It's a little swollen and crusty, I thought about taking it out to clean it. .But that's not smart is it? The piercing place didn't tell me much, just that I could change it after a couple months. But honestly how do I clean it, It's obviously getting infected, I've been using Listerine so far, but that doesn't work on the outside part of it.

First of all, don't touch and don't play with your piercings. Your hands are the dirtiest part of your body and contain all sorts of germs. Stop using Lysterine too. This is a harsh chemical. Do NOT take it off to clean it either. Once you take that jewelery off, there is no putting it back in unless you use force which will really hurt and infect your piercing even worse. Wash the outside of your piercing with antibacterial soap such as Dial. When handling any piercing, make sure that you wash your hands. Its best to wash your labret when you are in the shower. Let the running water wash the crust off. Now put some dial on your clean fingertips and gently wash around your piercing and then rinse off with the running water. You may also want to use peroxide on it after you get out of the shower. When drying your piercing, pat dry very lightly. Do not play or touch for a while. Keep doing this every day and eventually you will see results. This needs time to heal without your interfering in the healing process. If your piercing gets bad to the point where you get a bump, use a Q-tip to rub some Tea Tree Oil on it. This will dry the bump and will eventually fall off. Treat your piercing as if it were a wound.

ok NO perozide, rubbing alcohol or bactine. H2ocean spray or sea salt compresses are best. Mix 1/4 tsp sea salt in 8oz of warm to hot bottled water. Soak a cotton ball and place it on the piercing until it becomes cool, repeat with a fresh pad until you have soaked it for a total of 10-15 min. I use 1/2 a tablespoon in a 16 oz bottle of water and keep it in the fridge and warm up a lil bit when I need to use it. It h20cean is great for when you are away from home, but its like $10 a bottle. You can get a container of sea salt at the dollar store or even wal mart. Do the compress soaks twice a day.
Most important QUIT playing with it. Especially if your hands arent clean. Make sure you wash yourhands or use hand wipes or sanitizer before touching your piercing.

The nose is normal. When I got mine pierced there was goo for a month each morning. Here's some tricks for the nose and monroe to keept them from getting infected.
Take a shot glass or small cup and fill it with hot water & salt, mix it and tilt ur piercings (from the outside) into it.
I would also suggest purchasing H2Ocean which is sterile saltwater for the monroe piercing (you can use it for your nose too but it has to be purcharsed at a piercing place or over the net).
For my nose, I purchased Bactine and it gets out the dirt without the sting! It cost about $3.99 at the drug store

Use rubbing alcohol. Just get a q-tip, dip it in the alcohol and swab it on the outside. When I got my tongue pierced I was told to swish with salt water. Not with regular salt though. Im sorry I honestly forgot what kind of salt it is, but maybe someone else will know.

I second the Dial recommendation. Listerine and alcohol will dry out the piercing, but not help with the healing. Call your piercing studio and find out what sort of mouthwash they recommend for the inside of your piercing.

Try "Dial Complete Anti-bacterial Foam" liquid soap. Comes in a pump bottle, and works great. Had the same problem with my nose piercing, tried this stuff and it cleared up in one day.
