it seems one of the best things a parent can do is stay involved with their children. you can't stop the influence of society entirely, but your actions provide alot of guidance to the children none the less.

I believe that a parent has to not only instill good morals and teach their children about sex, the pros and cons, but they have to let them know where they stand. So many parents just say don't do it and leave their children to try and figure out why. But when a parent is involved in their child's life and can help them through the rough spot called puberty with encouragement instead of rage, then maybe they will have a better chance of their children listening to them.

Many Eastern born parents have a very stearn way of invoking the moral of no sex, and it's what they say goes. They also incorporate their religious beliefs in raising their children, which is always a great starting point, but after a certain age, there has to be a larger discussion of the nature and letting their child know what is expected of them not just religiously but morally and character wise.

In this society were everything is so sexualized their has to be more parental guidance and influence in childrens lives to help guide them in the way that they should go and then like riding a bike, you let them go and run along side of them until they can continue by themselves.

1)Choice in toys and activities while they are young has a lot to do with it. Put an emphasis on neutral toys such as blocks, puzzles, things that stimulate their minds and creativity and do not put an emphasis on their gender, like Barbie dolls. Dolls are good for roll playing, just be sure to not buy into the commercially advertised Brats, Barbies, etc that exploit the body and fashion.

2) Be selective in TV viewing. Avoid Disney movies, especially as they promote "The Princess Theory".

3) Keep them active in sports such as swimming, golf, tennis, soccer, etc. A well-rounded exposure to excercise will give them a healthy outlook on their bodies and they won't focus on the narcissism of self absortion.

4)Read books out loud to them. Read a wide variety of good children's literature, such as books by Dr. Seuss, Shel Silvertein, Frank Baum, Beatrix Potter & Maurice Sendak. Go to the library with them often.

5)Be involved with them from the get go and don't let up until they go off to college.

And don't forget the south! Well let's just say Nationwide! We won't blame it on any particular area. I guess chastity belts are not being used anymore huh? I wish I knew because this is a serious issues among especially young girls. I guess I would only advise that you watch them as closely as you can. Depending on their age, get them cell phones; be strict but loving; just keep a good rapport with them, this way they will always feel that they can come to you when peer pressure hits them.

I don't think that society is more promiscuous. I think that it is more noticable since we have internet, television, and movies. Take a look at history. Oedipus, from Greek mythogy, killed his father and married his mother. What does that say to young people? And when was the Kama Sutra written?

The best way to bring up a girl in todays society is to trie to bring them up the way your parents brought you up. Or maybe just be more sticked,I know my mom brought me up the way she was raisded and she was raised in the 50's. I was raised in the 80's not fun,I was made to wear really bad clothing with bad hair do's too. and to top it off the dresses I was made to wear looked like out of the 50's closet. Not good so just make sure you are stricked.

move to a conservative state. Family values isn't just something in the dictionary to most mid-westerners. Go republicans! (but not so much Bush...i don't like him anymore)

Or just don't buy a TV. Too many parents are letting their kids learn morals from MTV, as opposed to being an active and good parent.

Find a private Catholic School staffed by Nuns (there might be a few left, somewhere, with high fees). This worked for my generation, but it is the only way, because we grew up in a girl's school AND with role models who were celibate.
Otherwise, girls/teens are surrounded by role models (teachers, parents, etc) who are having sex, while they are forbidden to.

There is no subsitute for common sense - irrespective of gender. Boys are at risk too. Explain that Paris Hilton is not a role model.

Ethics is always eternal. It never changes in the society. So teach the girls morals and behavior. If you can give them proper moral education they will smoothly cross their maturity bar.
