I'm not sure if it was a movie or a documentary or even a commercial or something..but every single time I hear the song I get a horrible case of deja vu and I can see people crying like someone just died....I think it's from some movie...or a documentary about a tragic even but I can't put my finger on it. Thanks!

In the 1996 action film The Rock, the song is played early on, and near the climax Nicolas Cage's character asks a marine if he knows of the song, and states that the marine is the eponymous "rocket man" before launching a missile into him.

The 1997 comedy movie titled Rocket Man starring Harland Williams was about a goofy guy who goes to explore Mars with some other scientists and a chimpanzee. Elton John's song was played during the closing credits.

In the 1998 biopic Without Limits, based on the life of American runner Steve Prefontaine, "Rocket Man" is playing on the car radio at the time of Prefontaine's fatal accident.

In the FX show Nip/Tuck, "Rocketman" was played while Sean McNamara's mistress, Megan O'Hara, commits suicide to cope with her recurring cancer, in season one.

At the 1978 Sci-Fi Movie Awards, William Shatner appeared, performing Rocket Man in a stripped-down, almost spoken word style whilst wearing a tuxedo and laboriously smoking a cigarette. [3] This performance was later parodied by Stewie Griffin in the cartoon Family Guy[4]

In an episode of Third Rock from the Sun, the Big Giant Head (played by Shatner) attempts to pick up a woman at a dance by saying "I'm a rocket man, you know... would you care to jettison your pants?"

It is featured in Episode 303 of Six Feet Under ("The Eye Inside").

During the first Face to Face tour featuring John and Billy Joel, ads promoted the event as "Rocket Man meets Piano Man".

I'm not sure this is what you're thinking of, but it was in an episode on Nip/Tuck where Dr. McNamara stays with his pseudo-affair, Megan while she commits suicide.
