I have a 1992 volvo 240. How important is it to flush the transmission fluid all out before refilling it or is it OK just to drain it and refill it?

I work in the automotive industry in customer relations. I can tell you that GM recommends automatic transmissions be flushed every 50,000 miles.

ok are we talking about a manual transmission or an automatic here. I think transmission fluid in an automatic should be flushed every 60,000 miles pending the driving. Same for a stick. If you drain the tranny you will only get about 2/3 of the fuel out so I suggest goign to s shop where they can flush it.

Dad will always insist on every 30K for automatic transmissions. They will easily make it 60 in my opinion, but he's been rebuilding them since 1962 so I'd go with his opinion. Good luck.

Auto transmissions never need flushed its a waste of money if you do a fliud and filter (aka. service) every year you will not need to do a FLUSH.if you put a **** pot load of miles on your car change it twice a year

if you do it regularly, draining and refilling, maybe you will just have to flush it only once.
