It seems like anonymity lowers the bar for etiquette for many people. Do you think that people who are really rude online are just as rude and negative in everyday life, or is it that people are inclined to be rude when there are few consequences attached, due to anonymity?

Some people will be ill-mannered in any circumstance that they think they can get away with it. People who are rude online probably are also in traffic and on the phone. They are likely to be rude to waitresses and other service workers. These same people probably smile and shake hands with everyone at church and kiss their bosses behinds.

Depends. Think of John Gotti. He went from ' Teflon Don ' to
' The Velcro Don '. An ... untouhable. Look at J. Edgar Hoover. The most feared man in the Federal government for many decades. His reputation follows him. As does his organization. Never say there are no consequences attached. Today, there is no such thing as anonymity. Just temporarily inaccesible files or, wait a sec - it's coming up.

Of course it says something about the person. But let's differentiate between ' rude ' and ' defense. ' I try to be as forbearing as possible. Nonsense doesn't have to be countenanced for it's own sake.

I'd like to say ' this is a war - not a parliament ' but only a select few know what I mean. Thank you for your moderating attempt.

I think it depends. People are definately more like to show their true selves and thoughts when they know that there is no ramifications for their actions. Out in the real world where there can be consequences for such behavior they may appear perfectly nice. But I do that their behavior on the internet is very telling of the person they truely are.

I can be rude at times however only when provoked. Many people are pretty dumb and make stupid comments repeatedly so that says something of them.
I speak my mind both online and in real life. What's the point in saying what people want to hear for a measly 10 points.

I'm really rude online, and I'm equally rude in real life, I just don't say anything in real life.

I revel in anonymity.
