Its a horrendous god-awful movie. Its a waste of my life. I think it only got good ratings because felt so violated by it, they had to make others suffer through it as well, by saying it is good.

I was forced to watch it in college , I needed a certain amount of credits to graduate and I figured "what the hell ,how bad could a film class be ?
i absolutely hated the movie. I like movies where i genuinely care about the character[s] I don't have to love them but I have to be genuinely interested in what happens to them. All the great movies except Citizen Kane fulfill this requirement.
So why is CK consider by many to be the greatest movie of all time ? Because the people making that judgment are all movie people. These people have an amazing amount of knowledge about how movies are made and according to them the technical aspects rather than the story line is CKs claim to fame.

It's a really good film, i wouldn't say the greatest but it's really good. When it first came out it was not popular until many years later. And Orson Welles couldn't really direct any more movies after that because it was controversial at the time (it was said to be portrayal of William Randolph Hearst- a rich newspaper owner who was unethical and unprofessional, and Hearst tried to get this film destroyed). It really was a movie ahead of it's time for a 1941 film.

It was a mockery of William Randolph Hearst and his illicit relationship with actress, Marion Davies.
The babble about 'Rosebud', and it's his childhood sled from a family of meager means. Of course in real life, Hearst was born into wealth and was considered a newpaper mogul. He had poor reviews written about Citizen Kane.
It's a fantastic movie, though, and Joseph Cotten is one of my favorite actors. He worked with Orson Welles in radio, and was also in the 3rd Man, another film very worth seeing.

I did not enjoy Citizen Kane
many people did, many people do
enjoying a movie is a matter of taste
i couldn't even sit through "Steel Magnolias", yet many people payed good money to see it and went back again
"good" when describing a movie is just a matter of taste and preference

Rosebud was the sleigh...he liked riding it and has really good memories of thoughs times. Before he became rich and famous. It just shows how greed makes people act.
