Some people need to put down the carb cleaner, and step away from the motor.

Do you have an outboard or inboard motor. What year, make and horsepower.

Spraying carb cleaner around the out side does little but makes a mess. Spraying into a carb does nothing.
I think some ask if it was running or not. Not running, carb needs to be taken apart and cleaned. Running, A fuel system cleaner as the Techron, Mercury Quick Clean, Johnson Fuel system cleaner works well. Stay away from cleaners that use any type of alcohol in them.
I hope this helps, if you need more help, let us know what motor you have.

be careful of injector cleaners, the good ones can harm the fuel system. if its really gummed up the only sure thing is to rebuild it . dont bother spraying it, thats like washing a car because the engines blown. spraying in the throat doesnt put any cleaner through the fuel passages either.

Carb cleaner spray for the stuff you can see, Fuel system cleaner (Gumout, Chevron Techron) for the stuff you can't.

You'll probably have to remove the float bowl and clean that out, at least.

Get some carb cleaner. Use as directed. If it's really bad, you may have to disassemble the carb. Be sure everything is accounted for so you can put it back together correctly.
