If you are doing problems mentally, especially division, you want to round to numbers that you can divide in your head. For example, 278 divided by 14. It would be OK to change that to 280 divided by 14 = 20 or you could use 300 divided by 15 and get 20.
It helps do math in your head at the level of digits you can work with in your head.

Compatible numbers are numbers that are close in value to any particular numbers of interest. They are used for estimating.

Estimate 61 times 5.8.

Comaptible to 61 is 60, and compatible to 5.8 is 6, so a good estimate of the original product is 360.
