I'm soon to be 18 years old, and I can not live in my home anymore. My relationship with my parents has become emotionally and physically abusive, and I'm not comfortable here anymore. I would like to move to a new town that's close to family, but into an apartment by myself. The town that I'm planning on moving to averages apartment rents at about $450 a month. I get an $850 Social Security check each month, and I make at least $400 from my job. I'll still be attending high school, but I will only have to go in the morning as I will be able to leave for work in the afternoon. I know it's going to be tough and a struggle, I just want advice from someone who has gone through something similar and who can give me a realistic answer to whether or not I can make it on my own, regardless of the hardships, I'm a very driven and motivated person who refuses to drop out of school. I'm determined to work as hard as I need to survive and graduate. Someone help please.

Go for it. People do it all the time. Get a roommate to help with expenses. Remember, you will not only have rent, but you will also have utilities (electric, garbage and heating fuel or whatever) and food and regular monthly supplies (personals like soaps, paper goods, dtergents, and such). You will also have initial cost like apartment deposits, buying everything you need like furniture and toiletries (towels, rags, blankets, etc) and kitchen supplies.
Make a list of everything you need and start shopping. Shop smart and be frugal. Check out garage sales and second hand stores for some of that stuff to help save money. You seem to be able to do it. Good Luck out there.

Ok, you really need to get out!
But try to find somewhere cheaper. Maybe you can find a room-mate or two and share a nice flat together. Maybe all you need for now is a room, and not a whole apartment. Ask your friends, ask around, and try to save as much money as possible. If you're going to study and work at the same time, you don't need a big home, as you will only be there when you're sleeping anyway.
Do not, I repeat, do not move in with someone of the opposite sex! It's too early, your life is too chaotic, and it just doesn't make any sense yet. Better to have some fun, and gain some experience for a few years before you settle down with a significant other that you want to keep for life.

Everyone is going to tell you not to do it. They are right but there are a few people who are exceptions. I never moved out of my parents until I was 23 years old. I had to pay for college on my own and car etc. I did not live in a good situation so I solved it in my own way. I worked two jobs more than full time and I went to school full time. I WAS NEVER HOME. All I did was sleep there and a few chores around the house. I think that is the best way to go. You really really need to try to hold out as long as you can. It is so much harder than you think it is going to be, you are going to have to pay medical bills, car insurance, food, cleaning supplies, gas, clothing, phone bill, gas, electricity, internet, cable, all basic things and the money you are going to pull in is not enough. Just work a bit more than you normally do so that you don't have to be in the house when they are around. They will leave you alone because you are working so much! Once you finish high school then you should think about it. But really try to hold out! You don't want to go into debt so young.

I've never been through that so I can't help you from personal experience (sorry).
But my advice would be to tell the police that you are getting abused. You will probably get money and help and i'm sure since your not 18 yet and u r still a minor, you will get even more help then you will once u turn 18. Then if it doesnt work out you are free to do and go where you want as soon as you turn 18. It's good you want to work so hard. You're going to make it.
Good luck

You said SS check of 850.00 plus 400.00 from work , free health care. you get about as much as i do on my pension. but I manage w/ mortgage and bills and with a son. But you are in luck because of the SS check get on line and check out the apartments in that town for low income. and fill out the paper work. for low income and section 8. have the SS office give a letter to qualify for the benefits. Good Luck.

it will be extremely tough... find a roomy! really if youve gotten use to food as most of have... you will want a roomy. may suck. but you will have more than a collective .23 cents to your name at the end of the day. but stay strong. you can do it. i did about the same thing. its tough... but... the word ...easy...as you will find.. doesnt enter into adult life very often. but then again... nothing great comes without hard work
good luck
