OK, I don't know what cowboy bill is talking about. Not sure where he gets his info....I've been retrofitting and working on R134 systems since 96 and they work great and don't leak down, provided the work is quality based. Now, if your system needs to be refilled it has a leak. If you refill it and it lasts all summer...great, let it go. If it only lasts a week, it will require attention. Generally I find leaks around the crimps on the high side hoses. Look for oil residue. OR sometimes the rubber hoses are laying against something and they develop a chafe. It will be a spot that has rubbed down. It won't appear to leak, but it will leak out gas not liquid so you won't know. Just do a good visual inspection. NOW, if your system requires repair it will need to be vaccumed down after the repair. Add 2 ounces of ester oil. Then recharge. Pretty simple really. The oil is critical but don't put too much in or the system will take 5 min. to cool down. Good luck.

AC systems use a pressurized refrigerant in a sealed system in your car -- a 'compressor' circulates the refrigerant (R134A in almost all cars now) which removes the heat from inside the car. Over a period of time the R134A will leak down and a 'recharge' or refill is needed. Cost is usually about $8.00 per LB and takes about 30 min to do. Average car/truck holds about 3.5 LBS.

the freon that makes your a/c cool is gone and needs to be replaced.also if it has leak out you may have a hole or a leak in the a/c system that will need to be repaired.your mech. my say he needs to do a vac test on your a/c to see if this is the case.its hard to say how much the cost will be,not knowing what else could be wrong.in VA.its about 20.00 to have freon put in and then the cost of the freon itself.if you need other parts it could be a couple hundred dollars. hope this helps.

It means your refrigerant is low, or empty. As far as cost, a service technician would be able to tell you over the phone if you have the make and model of you AC unit handy.
